What was the Cold War?

The cold war 1945-1991 was a period of high tensions between the U.S.A and the USSR. The two countries focused on spreading their influence throughout the world. For the U.S it was to spread free democratic nations, and for the USSR it was to spread communism. AS well as expanding their influence, the two countries tried to best each other through massive military buildup, technology advances, the space race, and even sports.
