Korean & Vietnam War

Korean War:

  • Began on June 25th, 1950. Ended on July 27th, 1953.

  • The war was initially caused by North Korea’s invasion of South Korea. There was fear of the spread of communism and they were trying to avoid the domino effect.

  • The U.S. attempted to contain North Korea’s army and assemble forces to defeat it.

  • Korea was split in two, and were separated by a demilitarized zone (DMZ).

  • A new regime in the USSR ended the fighting in 1953.
 

Vietnam War:

  • Also known as the Second Indochina War.

  • Nationalist forces were attempting to unify the country of Vietnam under a Communist government, while the United States was trying to spread communism.

  • Fought from November 1, 1955 to April 30, 1975

  • Victory for the Vietnamese, while American’s lost their support
